Here are a few things to consider when creating a catalog.

Catalog Page Size

The most common sizes are 8.5” x 5.5” and 8.5” x 11.5”. Now, these can be bound on either the “long” or “short” side, so think about if you’re looking for a landscape or horizontal style. Of course, this doesn’t mean those are the only sizes. Whatever you need, we can do it. You name it, we print it!

Catalog Page Count

However many pages, front and back, that your catalog will be will impact your printing cost. The quantity of total catalogs will be the main factor, but the number of pages within those catalogs will also matter. This is why design is paramount to an efficient catalog. Think about how much information needs to be presented per page. Each “sheet” will have two “sides.” A “sheet” will typically be considered two pages regardless of how a booklet or catalog is bound.

Catalog Binding

Your catalog size may impact what type of binding you choose to use. The typical binding styles for catalogs are saddle-stitched, perfect binding, coil binding, or comb binding. Perfect binding may also be referred to as adhesive binding, as it uses glue to keep the pages securely bound without any use of staples or spirals. This may be needed if your catalog is over roughly 100 pages or so. This could also depend on the thickness of the paper for your catalog.

Catalog Paper Type

Typically a catalog cover will be what is known as a “plus cover,” which means the front and back cover are printed on a heavier cover-weight paper. The thicker the booklet or catalog, the more vital it will be to increase the thickness of the cover. “Text weight” essentially means the thickness used on the inner pages of the catalog, whereas “cover weight” is the paper that is typically used on the cover of the catalog.

Color or Black and White?

Whatever type of ink that your catalog will use will impact the cost of printing. When getting a quote for a catalog order, the printer will need to know this in order to get you an honest quote. Of course, you can always do a few samples to get an idea of what it would look like in order to make a bigger decision.

Print & Mail Catalogs with Marketing Tech of WNY

The last factor that will impact your catalog printing price is whether you need them shipped to you, or shipped to a mailing list. We can use direct mail to send your catalogs to a list of businesses as a means of prospecting, or if you have a list we can use that to get it out to your existing clients or vendors.
